Our
Service Department Is Like A Store In Itself!
|
With
the big box stores popping up in every
community, there is some wonder on how
small, independent bike shops remain
open. Places like Toys R Us,
Sports Authority, K-Mart, and Dick's
Sporting Goods pump out huge volumes
of "B" brand bikes and in
some cases, even carry top-shelf name
brands from the bike industry.
So how does a small neighborhood bike
shop compete with the sales volume of
the department stores? Well, we
like to turn that question around and
ask: How do the big box stores compete
with the small, specialty shops when
it comes to service and knowledge?
And, a lot like the answer to the
first question....they can't, don't
and never will! At Smart
Cycles, we understand that bicycle
repair and maintenance is not brain
surgery or rocket science!
BUT.....
|
|
A
Bike Is NOT A Toy, Don't treat it like
one!!!
|
|

......We DO know that a properly
assembled and tuned bike is more
likely to be SAFE as well as a lot
more fun to ride... and that counts
for a LOT!
We
take great care and pride in our
mechanical work and it shows.
Our store has one of the best
reputations in the region for having a
superior service department. Our
mechanics are absolute professionals
in their field. Whether you need
training wheels installed, or if you
need your frame aligned before a race,
our service department will take care
of you. This section will give
you an overview of our repair services
and some insight into that room in the
back of the store where all the noise
comes from!

Tune
Ups
|
|

A bike
tune-up is a complete inspection,
adjustment, and lubrication of your
bicycle. We adjust gears and brakes,
true wheels, adjust the headset,
bottom bracket, axle cones and check
all nuts and bolts during a tune up.
We will also lube your bike as needed.
During a tune-up, we perform all
repairs necessary to put your bike
into the best shape it can be in for
safe and reliable operation.
Parts and installation labor are not
included. We recommend tune-ups
once a year at a minimum for all
bikes. See a tune-up in progress
here!
$75 for Geared Bikes
$45 for BMX, Kids, and Freestyle Type

Drivetrain
Overhauls
|
|

A drivetrain overhaul is a complete
disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and
adjustment of your drivetrain (cranks,
chain, cassette or freewheel, front
derailleur and rear derailleur).
It will ensure that you get the most
use out of your bicycle's drive
mechanism. We recommend DT
overhauls once a year and prefer to do
them in conjunction with a tune-up.

Complete
Overhauls - Also Performed During
Repair Clinics!
|
|

An overhaul is a complete
reconditioning of your bicycle.
During an overhaul, we completely
disassemble your entire bike in
detail. We hand clean all
components, re-lube them, re-install
them, and re-assemble your bicycle.
Then we perform a complete tune-up. An
overhaul gives a dirty, well ridden
bicycle a new life and greatly reduces
wear and tear on all of its
components. During an overhaul,
we perform all repairs necessary to
put your bike into the best shape it
can be in for safe and reliable
operation. Parts are not
included in the price. We
recommend overhauls based on the
condition of your bike. If you
ride year round, or mountain bike in
all conditions...an overhaul once a
year will make your bike last longer!

HOW
OFTEN SHOULD I MAINTAIN MY BICYCLE????
A common and legit question! The
most accurate answer is that it
depends on where you ride, what
conditions you ride in and how much
you ride! A bicycle is a
machine...all machines need some form
of continuous care. Here is a
small list of things to do before and
after every ride at a minimum...and a
guide to how often your bike needs to
visit the shop!
BEFORE
EVERY RIDE
-Check Tire Pressure
-Check Shock Pressure
-Check Fork Pressure
-Inspect Tires For Cracks or Peeling
-Check and Make Sure Brakes Are
Operational
-Check Critical Stem/Braking System
Hardware/Bolts for Proper Torque
-Check For Loose Parts and Make Sure
Bike Does Not RATTLE
-Check Chain for Tight Links or
Potential Failure Points
AFTER
EVERY RIDE
-Inspect Tires Again
-Clean Drivetrain of Sand and Grime
-Clean Frame and Painted Areas of
Sand, Grime, and SWEAT!
-Re-lube chain properly and wipe off
excess chain lube
-Hang Bike In SAFE PLACE!
TUNE
UPS
We recommend a tune up once a year on
every bike at a MINIMUM...if you ride
more you might need more than one tune
up a year! A tune up on a
bike is a lot like an OIL Change in a
car...it needs to be done after a
certain amount of mileage, but should
always be considered every 6 months or
so on a bike that is used and needs to
be considered safe and reliable!
OVERHAULS
Overhauls completely recondition your
bike. If your bike is SO grimy and
dirty that a tune up will be
ineffective, then you need an
OVERHAUL. If you have premium
equipment, overhauls are recommended
more often, about once a year, to
keep your bike and its gear in that
premium class! We do partial
overhauls and Drivetrain overhauls
more often than complete
overhauls...If your bike is tired,
dirty and sad looking...an over haul
will breath new life into it!
WHEN
IN DOUBT...
We
do FREE estimates and safety checks
,anytime...If you are In Doubt...get
your bike down to the shop and we will
inspect it for you!
All
rates listed are minimum. Hourly
rate of $100 applies to all service
department work. Repair
estimates are not guaranteed unless
given in writing by management.
Deposits may be required before work
begins. Store Sales Policy
applies to all service department
transactions! Policies and costs
posted in-store hold precedence
over any listed on this site. A $3.50
supply/disposal fee is added to
most overhauls.
